DMOZ is Such a Joke
So, DMOZ has the name of my lingerie store listed incorrectly:
http://dmoz.com/Shopping/Clothing/Undergarments/Lingerie/
They have it listed as "Vicious Enterprises" when it is (obviously?) Hustler Panties. I've known this for a while but didn't really care until I noticed that DMOZ's incorrect information is being plastered all over the internet (Google, Alexa, copy-cat directories, etc). So, I mustered up all of my fake-nice power and posted over at the Resource Zone (DMOZ's forum, for those you that don't know). Here is how "well" it went:
ViciousSummer:
"Hello there,
One of my sites is listed in the following category:
http://dmoz.com/Shopping/Clothing/Un...ents/Lingerie/
The name of the site is listed as "Vicious Enterprises", which is not the name of the store (it should be "Hustler Panties"). I noticed this quite a while ago and didn't care until the incorrect DMOZ data started showing up everywhere (Alexa, other directories, Google, etc). Is there any way that this can be fixed before any more damage is done?"
jimnoble:
"It's quite normal to use the business name as a listing's title. In this case, both the page footer and whois confirm that the business name is indeed Vicious Enterprises."
ViciousSummer:
"Well, that's unfortunately that it's "normal" because in this case it's wrong. This is a completly inaccurate company description for Vicious Enterprises:
"Offering lingerie, pasties, costumes, stockings and rhinestone jewelry. Brands include Hustler and Leg Avenue."
That would be a somewhat accurate description of *one* of our stores (HustlerPanties.com). Vicious Enterprises is a conglomeration of retail stores as well as a clothing line that is completely unrelated to lingerie.
I can easily change the copyright to "HustlerPanties.com" if that will help. If you're going off of "whois" info, do you think "Evolution Marketing and Development" would be better then "Angel Bodywear"? I suppose "Belabumbum" should be changed to "Heidi Rauch" and "Club Lace" should be "CSP Media"?"
Eric-the-Bun:
"I am afraid we normally don't go into the ins-and-outs of a particular site on this forum. Because the content of the site can change, descriptions may be out of date and thus the 'update option' is provided.
The best advice would be for you to review your site and its listing according to the guidelines and make that update request if there are any factual errors in the listing.
It will then be up to the editor reviewing the request to agree or disagree (which is unlikely to be anyone on this forum)..."
ViciousSummer:
"I appreciate your help, Eric. I did fill out the request as you mentioned before.
The real problem is that this is actually *hurting* my company so it is an urgent matter for me. It's not a matter that the website or company has changed, it's just that an editor made a mistake AND which ever random editor that stumbles upon my update request (months or years down the road?) will probably deny it because they don't have the information that I have provided here."
bobrat:
"It appears to be listed correctly (and the editor did not make a mistake)
The mailing address/contact info on that site is:
Vicious Enterprises
While in fact there are several related sites under that name, only one will be listed so there is no conflict."
ViciousSummer:
"The reason the mailing address on HustlerPanties.com says "Vicious Enterprises" is for privacy reasons, most customers do not want mail delivered to them with the name of the company "Hustler Panties", for obvious reasons.
Yes, the editor did make a mistake, and you telling me that some random editor knows the name of my company better then I do is inane. What exactly do you think I'm doing here? Do you think I am lyeing to you about the name of my company, because that seems to be what is being implied.
You're also saying that the (incorrect) listing for Vicious Enterprises is the best description of the company, even though Vicious Enterprises has been around long before HustlerPanties.com, and none of our other, competely different websites will be listed in DMOZ. Not exactly the smartest thing I've heard today, but you seem to know best.
Other websites that are listed in the same catagory:
CrazyLaces.com is listed as Inetmedia on their contact page, whois and footer, but somehow they are listed as "Crazy Laces" in DMOZ? EssentialLingerie.com is listed as "Essential Lingerie", yet that domain is just a portal to woods-online.co.uk? I could go on, if you'd like...
Can someone please just erase the listing completely? DMOZ is such a joke."
It only gets worse...
Seriously, DMOZ is such a joke. I tried to go about doing this the right way by posting in the public forum (when I easily could have emailed an editor internally, since I'm a FUCKING EDITOR), but instead a bunch of morons try to pretend they know more about MY company then I do. I own the company, I edit the fine lingerie catagory in DMOZ and you're going to tell ME that I don't know the name of my very own LINGERIE WEBSITE. I have no patience for stupidity, sorry.

7 Shenanigans:
DMOZ really is a bad joke.
First are'nt you worried that they could lock you out for this?
Well as for me I am VERY proud to admit that I was locked out because I am not an ASS KISSER. What DMOZ is looking for are Editors that would say YES to everything. Robots. Thanks to Digitalpoint Forum for it had opened my EYES to the REAL Concept of what DMOZ is all about.
They did not even liked the IDEA when I voted for Oneeye as my TOP IDOL for the 2006 Awards. I'm just waiting for a Good Timing to expose Anomalies. Filipinos are a Good Fighter and I can give them One.
Participating in the Digitalpoint Forum got my site Unlisted in DMOZ for not having content By MOTSA, the Quality Control Specialist and who can't accept the fact that my Idol Oneeye is always far much better in all field and aspect than her. What a shame Motsa you have a Sto. Nino as an Avatar and you want yourself to be voted as Evil ? That does not sound right. Maybe you are an Atheist and making FUN of the Catholic Church and your not friendly either to be worth of the Sto. Nino Avatar. Consider assesing your Human Behavior and while your at it drown yourself in Fire. Anyway, my site got unlisted for not having content maybe look after the Adult listings see and compare which has quality content.
No I'm not afraid of being kicked out, I'm not doing anything wrong.
I highly doubt that participating in the DP forum got your site delisted from DMOZ. If your site didn't have content, then that's what got you kicked out (and rightly so).
As for the rest of your comment, I have no idea who any of those people are or what the hell you are talking about...haha
Hi Vicious,
I posted twice at Resource Zone in your thread and it was deleted and locked. I got kicked out for telling the truth.
hmmm...
I just looked in the directory for Huslter Panties and couldn't find it? So I looked for Vicious Enterprises and didn't see that there either...did the DMOZ give you the boot or can I just not find it?
No, I wasn't booted, my listing was changed and moved to:
http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Clothing/
Although it is once again wrong. You can not shop at ViciousEnterprises.com, so why would it be in the "Shopping" category? Whatever. I give up =).
I know what you are saying Vicious. I have visited your site. That is what gworld is fighting for at DP. By the way, welcome to the club of being locked out in DMOZ for speaking FREELY.
I have been reading your post at DP, since you spoke against DMOZ your site will be stucked in that category with all justifications that they can think of. But you're lucky mine got unlisted. aquarius the one who went after you is editor pvgool in DMOZ. If you want to know who brizzie is he is a former editall in DMOZ Oneyee. And me Ex Regional Editor monayuki.
Thanks for the inside scoop...haha ;). I couldn't careless about DMOZ or their crap directory. The only editors that I have come across that have more then half of a brain are CompostAnnie and Eric-the-Bun. Brizzie means well, but just won't listen to anything besides himself.
