Yeah, I had to put a container over it.
Explanation: Summer woke me up at 3:00am yelling about she needed me to kill it. Kill what? She was practically histarical! I got out of bed and was nervous...i ran into the office with bare feet and didn't want the potatoe bug to eat my foot so I put a container over it. We left it to suffer in the mini-jail cell for the morning.
When I woke up the little fucker was gone again. It not only ate through the container but it killed one our neighbors dogs too!
Ok, the neighbors dog is still alive and it didn't eat the container...but it did escape.
Creepy...

YES! Arn't they GROSS?! I'm pretty sure they eat babies too...
Oh, and just for the record, I did not tell Stefan to kill it. I'm the one that put a box over it, but I did wake him up at 3am (fairly hysterical...look at that fucking thing!!) and told him that he needed to get the potato bug the hell out of my office. Stefan stumbled into the office and the potato bug had knocked the box over, but was still stuck inside, so he opened the patio door at booted the box outside. Problem solved. Stefan is a genius :).
Hell, I'm surprised it didn't take Stefan down and put him in a box. I have never seen anything like that! Now I can't wait to see the bugs you post about when you move to Costa Rica :P
So funny how this is your nightmare bug. I can take ANY other insect and have no issues with it. If it is dangerous, well I am just careful.....But these little ugly!!!!!!The only insect that gives me the heebiejeebies....and I have seen some other pretty ugly insects.
I know it, I feel the same way. Give me scorpions, taratulas, black widow spiders...anything except potato bugs. They're SO GROOSSSSSSSS!
I've never heard them called "potatoe bugs". Usually these little cuties are known as "Jerusalem Crickets". In Spanish they are called "Ninos de la Tierra" or "children of the earth...

Yes, I've heard them referred to as Jerusalem Crickets before (I wonder why? Are the from Jerusalem?). When i was a kid, I always called the little grey bugs that curl up like armadillos "potato bugs", but someone told me that that big ugly bug above is a potato bug...
