Stefan and I just got back from Costa Rica and all I have to say is....DAMN, why the F*%# is San Diego so cold?!?! Okay, I have more to say then that, but after aclimating to Costa Rica, San Diego is damn cold. Any how, Here is all about my recent trip:
Flying in to Costa Rica from San Diego is somewhat of a waste because all flights land in San Jose, CR after 10PM, which means that most rental car agencies are closed and you have to spend the night in San Jose. Normally, that wouldn't matter, but San Jose is a dump. And it's not really safe, so be aware and get outta there asap. If you have to sleep in San Jose, I recommend staying at La Guaria Inn (laguariahotel@netscape.net). It's $38 a night, clean, cable TV, air conditioning and breakfast is included.
In the morning we headed over to Playa Hermosa (by Jaco). The surf looked reallllly fun, but guess what! America West lost our luggage and surfboards, so we went shopping for clothes instead of surfing. Weak. At least the sunset was nice:

When we finally recovered our luggage and boards, the surf was flat in Playa Hermosa, so we headed to the Nicoya Peninsula. We went to Tamarindo, specifically. I will never go to Tamarindo again. It's a tourist trap/eye sore now. Tamarindo is now home to a casino, a Burger King AND a freaking Pizza Hut. That might not sound so bad but Tamarindo is a strip right along the beach that is maybe 1/2 long and now it is just crammed with touristy shit and relators trying to score some American money. There was nothing picture worthy there and the surf SUCKED.
After Tamarindo, we headed down the Nicoya Peninsula to Playa Guiones, which is near Playa Samara

Hey, is that a HustlerPanties.com sticker?! How in the world did that get there!

Playa Guiones was awesome. Very untouristy, but it is kind of Americanized in a really cool way. The surf was really good too. After one night in Guiones, we started our 3 hour tour down the Nicoya Peninsula to Mal Pais. Half way down, I had to pee, so we stopped at some random resort on the beach in the middle of nowhere. Since we didn't want to seem like we were just mooching their bathroom we decided to order two beers (Imperial of course). Our two Imperials came to 5000 colones...haha. Just to give you an idea how ridiculous that is, you can get an Imperial in any bar in Costa Rica for 300 - 500 colones. Gotta love resorts...
Adventures in Costa Rica to be continued...
