Temperpedic Mattresses

Stefan and I finally broke down and got a new bed. After much thought and lots of research we opted for the king-sized Tempurpedic "pressure relieving Swedish mattress system" that is "changing the way the world sleeps". After testing out all different types of Tempurpedic beds, we opted for the The DeluxeBed by Tempur-Pedic:

Now, I'm not one to drop $3,000 on a mattress (especially when it's just a stack of foam), but holy crap, this mattress is totally worth it. Plus, I think I've paid my dues by sleeping on a $100 mattress my entire life...

Our new mattress is not being delivered until Wednesday, but we did get two ComfortPillows (by Tempur-Pedic) which we used last night. I swear to you that just by using the Tempur-Pedic pillow, I had the best nights sleep I've had in as long as I can remember. I actually woke up RESTED (that never happens...Never, never, never!)!

Everyone is getting Tempur-pedic pillows for Christmas this year, seriously.

Totally agree.

We sell memory foam mattresses so I got a good deal on mine (and a pillow). Less rolling around means a much better sleep. I love it too.

If someone doesn't fancy the $3k TempurPedic price tag (to fuel their marketing engine), just go for another "visco memory foam" mattress. The thicker the visco layer, the merrier.

Do you need to put an extra waterproof layer on your mattress?

Not suggesting that you need incontinence pants but just think of the foam as a giant sponge.

Not good for night sweats.

Gee, Johan, NOW you tell me that I could have gotten it for less...;)

Bulbboy - We had them throw in the mattress protector, since we are moving to the sweaty tropics. :D

Well thank you Summer, because while reading your blog my 3 year old son came over to inform me that "That's the cool furniture that I need", because ya know, his $78 Sealy matress for his toddler bed must just not be working for him anymore....

Hahaha!

Amber, your son is so hilarious! He'd be big pimpin' in a king sized Tempur-Pedic...haha

Bit late but here ya go...

Memory foam reacts on body heat. Based on that, I decided to not put a mattress protector on top so as to not block this transfer of heat. Just make sure your bedroom is ventilated well.

Combined with a good air sterlizer like an AirFree you don't run the risk of dustmite (foam mattressess are much more dustmite resistant in the first place) either.

And if it does stain from a little sweating after a while, it's probably time for a new one. Even though they are built and often carry warranty to last 15 to 20 years, just consider you spend 1/5th to 1/3rd of your life sleeping, what's the harm in shelling out a grand on some quality furniture every few years?

It's not like you wear the same shoes for 15 years, drive the same car for 20 years, wear the same clothes etc. Sleep is important so it warrants a healthy investment IMO.

You die much faster without sleep than without a TV so in my mind the investment should be proportional like that.

Has anyone had problems overheating while sleeping a Tempurpedic?

Ditto-

I'm thinking of buying one of these but someone said it's really wet and sweaty if you live someplace hot and humid (like Hawaii).

Words of advice greatly appreciated!
